Legal Counsel

About this opportunity:

Cenovus is seeking an experienced lawyer to join its Corporate Legal team. The successful candidate will provide legal advice and support to the following areas: Corporate and Subsidiary Governance, Financial Reporting, Finance & Risk, Corporate Development, Tax, Sustainability, Communications, public company disclosure, stock exchange listing requirements and compensation plan matters.

What you'll do:

The successful candidate will provide legal support for a wide variety of matters, including:

• Public company governance

• Subsidiary governance

• Public company disclosure

• Public company listing requirements (TSX & NYSE)

• Public and private acquisitions and divestitures transactions

• Investments in portfolio companies

• Confidentiality agreements

• Inter-company transactions

• Commercial agreements

• Equity compensation plans

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will:

• Be legally authorized to work in Canada

• Have a Bachelor of Law (LLB) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in the Law Society of Alberta

• Have 4-7 years of relevant legal experience

• Be well-organized and meticulous, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines

• Be able to work independently and in support of more senior lawyers

• Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Have strong business acumen and the ability to align legal strategies with Cenovus's overarching business objectives

• Be able to work efficiently and effectively with a variety of disciplines across all levels of the organization

The following training/skills are considered an asset:

• Familiarity with NI-51-101 disclosure requirements

• Familiarity with the oil and gas industry
