The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Canadian Natural Gas Pipelines Law, this position will have a primary focus of supporting the Land legal team while providing support on environmental and regulatory matters. The successful candidate will work with internal and external legal resources to support TC Energy's Land and Environment groups for both operational and project work, including major projects in Alberta and other regions of Canada as part of a multi-disciplinary approach to operational and project support.
Effective collaboration with commercial and regulatory legal colleagues will be required. Work with the Land client group may include drafting and negotiating settlement agreements, purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements and other land agreements, as well as assisting in the development of land acquisition strategies for projects and other strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will provide land-related expertise and support on regulatory applications and commercial business agreements.
What you'll do
Provide support, guidance, legal opinions and drafting on land and environmental matters, particularly in respect of surface rights, environment and land-related issues and strategies
Work independently on complex legal matters and projects
Support land and environment-related aspects of regulatory filings with federal and provincial regulatory boards and other administrative tribunals and agencies
Co-ordinate and manage the provision of legal services with other internal resources and external legal counsel where issues require specific expertise
Assist in the development of standardized or complex agreements and policies
Support senior members of the group in all legal matters related to land, environment and regulatory for TC Energy's pipelines and other facilities
Researching and drafting memos on various legal issues; and
Other tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Law degree from a Canadian law school or an ABA accredited law school
Membership or eligible for membership to the Alberta Bar; and
At least 4 years of related legal experience (includes experience in Land, Environment and/or Regulatory Law) Expertise with land acquisition in the AER, OGC and/or CER regulatory environments would be considered an asset.

Strong organizational skills and an ability to support diverse client groups and handle multiple files
Ability to develop practical business solutions
Demonstrated ability to complete complex legal tasks within tight deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well both independently as well as in a team environment; and
An ability and willingness to travel within North America as required.
