Job Description

The Law team is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, and professional individual to join the team as a Regulatory Administrator. The Law team provides strategic legal and business advice to the AESO in relation to regulatory and commercial matters in support of the AESO’s public interest mandate, and legislative and regulatory legal obligations. We work closely and collaboratively with cross functional teams and internal colleagues.

This position reports to the Legal Manager, Markets & Tariff. As a member of the AESO’s Law team, the Regulatory Administrator is responsible for providing support on the drafting, review, and filing of AESO authoritative documents, organizing stakeholder engagement, and working groups, and managing regulatory proceedings processes, and other matters as required in the best interests of the AESO, industry participants and Albertans.

The Regulatory Administrator works collaboratively as part of the Law team to achieve the AESO’s strategic and business goals, ensure compliance with the AESO’s public interest mandate and regulatory legal obligations, and assist with proactively mitigating risk and preventing legal liability.

Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and manage detailed project timelines and workflows with respect to the development of, consultation on and filing of AESO Authoritative Documents (“ADs”), being the Independent System Operator (“ISO”) rules, the ISO tariff and the Alberta reliability standards.

  • Manage and be the key contact for current internal processes associated with the development of, consultation on, and filing of AESO ADs, and the development and posting of related information documents.

  • Prepare correspondence, documentation, and emails with the assistance of Regulatory Analysts and Legal Counsel for stakeholders and internal clients relating to AESO ADs.

  • Maintain records through proper usage of SharePoint Online and adherence to records management policies.

  • Manage Alberta Utilities Commission (“AUC”) proceedings relating to AESO ADs, including scheduling of meetings, booking facilities, and logistical support during hearings.

  • Monitor for, summarize, and distribute relevant AUC documents and external regulatory submissions.

  • Manage deadlines and filings associated with AESO regulatory submissions.

  • Develop implement, and maintain regulatory processes, tools, templates, and training relating to the AESO ADs.

  • Provide support for FOIP requests.

  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with other AESO business units, including AESO subject matter experts.

  • Organize stakeholder engagement activities relating to AESO ADs.

  • Organize working groups related to AESO ADs.

  • Provide support to the other Regulatory Administrators as required.

  • Provide ongoing administrative support to the Law team as required.

You have:

  • Experience or training as a paralegal or senior legal assistant.

  • Diploma or Degree in a related field.

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience with regulatory or legal processes in a regulated utility, law firm, or equivalent experience.

  • Must be highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint.

  • High level of attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated strong initiative and work ethic and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

  • Experience with document management tools, such as SharePoint, and publication tools would be an asset.

  • Project management experience would be an asset.

  • Experience with AUC filings and processes would be an asset.
