Law and Policy Manager
$88,700.23 - $125,700.07 annually

At the Workers' Advisers Office (WAO), you'll join a collegial and supportive team, collaborating with over 40 Advisors and Intake Administrators on critical issues. As part of the Leadership Team, you'll work independently of WorkSafeBC but engage with a diverse community, including trade unions, advocacy groups and medical professionals to champion workers’ rights. The Law and Policy Manager reports to the Executive Director. They provide strategic planning advice in administrative law and policy and support and train on legal matters impacting the WAO. This role involves managing a caseload, representing workers, and ensuring the WAO delivers expert advice and representation on workers’ compensation. This position offers research, analysis and expertise on complex legal matters, influencing regulation and policy development and oversees external communication and policy consultations with WorkSafeBC. The position requires managing a high-volume caseload and balancing competing priorities in a diverse and often contentious work environment.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in law or a related field (e.g., public administration, public policy, business administration). An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ recent experience in each of the following:
    • Experience providing advice and support regarding various types of legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Experience researching and preparing cases for decision/submission or appearing before tribunals/boards/commissions/appellate bodies/mediations.
  • Experience in disability/injury management, workers’ compensation claims adjudication and case management, and/or workplace occupational health and safety (OH&S).
