About the role

We're looking for a Compliance Lawyer to join our dynamic team!

What you'll do here:

  • Act as Compliance, Legal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel on behalf of IFC and its subsidiaries, primarily in the areas of compliance and insurance regulation

  • Provide legal and regulatory advice and guidance on a wide range of Federal and Provincial regulatory matters and projects related to the financial services sector.

  • Support in all areas of our compliance framework, including:

    • Lead and oversee compliance training and awareness on a wide range of compliance topics

    • Conduct compliance assurance over IFC business activities to ensure adherence to and compliance with external laws, regulation and internal policy

    • Play an active role in supporting stakeholders in the investigation, management, and resolution of compliance incidents and breaches

    • Manage regulatory examinations, engagements and reviews; support business stakeholders with preparation in advance of regulator meetings; track actions to closure and ensure actions are well embedded and sustained

    • Participate in horizon scanning and support business with the legislative change process to ensure compliance with regulatory changes in our external environment

    • Proactively develop and/or implement policies, procedures, and best practices

  • Ensure the integrity and values of the organization are always respected


What you'll bring to the table:

  • Member of the Law Society of Ontario, NL or Member of The Barreau du Quebec

  • 3+ years of experience at a large firm or large in-house department in regulatory compliance, insurance law or other regulated industry

  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, training, and communication skills

  • Confidence managing files independently with minimal support

  • Sound judgment and the ability to assess the practical implications of legal risks

  • Ability to proactively identify legal and reputational risks and propose innovative business solutions

  • Ability to build relationships with business units and stakeholders and influence decision-making at the operational and corporate level

  • Ability to collaborate well with others

  • Capacity to prioritize and handle several files and projects at once

  • Comfort with technology tools, including good working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Bilingualism required (French and English)] Need to interact on a regular basis with an English-speaking clientele and colleagues across the country

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada
