Work Description:

The Articling Student will gain hands-on experience across multiple practice areas, including commercial law, employment law, construction law, real estate law, planning law, and litigation. This role involves contract review, legal research, policy development, and general legal support to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Articling Student will work closely with legal professionals, providing advisory assistance, managing Small Claims Court matters, and contributing to the development of legal policies. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a dynamic legal environment.

Major Responsibilities:

· Contract Review: Review various types of commercial and corporate agreements and provide legal advice on the potential legal implications for the organization.

· General Legal Support: Offer comprehensive legal and advisory support to the organization on a wide range of legal matters.

· Legal Compliance: Stay up-to-date with laws, rulings, and regulations that impact the organization, particularly in areas relevant to our operations.

· Policy: Assist various departments with the development of new legal policies or review and update old legal policies.

· Advocacy and Research: Commence and/or manage small claims court matters. Research various areas of the law at the request of general counsel.

· Skill Development: Demonstrate a willingness to expand expertise in new areas of law and actively contribute to problem-solving initiatives.

Statement of Qualifications:

· Education: A Juris Doctor (J.D) or Bachelor of Law (L.L.B) completed by the end of May 2025 and eligible to commence articling in 2025.

· Strong computer skills in MS Office

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Excellent organizational skills

· Solid analytical skills

· Very good writing skills

· Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload and display a strong sense of urgency when handling priority requests

· Flexibility/adaptability within a dynamic work environment

· Team player

Physical/Sensory Effort/Work Environment

· Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.

· Sitting or Standing for long periods of time at workstation.
