About the job
While reporting to the Director and/or Deputy Director, duties will include:
• Handling a high volume of files to support the Ministry of Transportation's Road User Safety mandate • Providing oral and written opinions concerning the Highway Traffic Act, Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, Provincial Offences Act, and other statutes and regulations • Taking a lead role in the development and drafting of statutes and regulations and assisting the client with related policy development and implementation • Advising the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) with respect to compliance and enforcement • Reviewing and advising on Orders-in-Council, appointments and delegations and related instruments • Reviewing and commenting on legislation prepared by other ministries • Providing litigation support to MTO clients in connection with matters being led by litigation counsel including those at Crown Law Office Civil and Constitutional Law Branch • Working closely with Constitutional Law Branch to provide Ministry clients with Constitutional law advice

• Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario

• Proven experience in providing advice and opinions • Demonstrated experience in administrative law • Proven experience in development of statutes and regulations and provision of assistance to the client with related policy development and implementation • Demonstrated judgement and ability to work under pressure to ensure advice fully considers clients' policies, programs, objectives and interests • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks while working under tight deadlines • Proven analytical and clear writing ability • Ability to develop new skills and take on new duties and contribute and work effectively as part of a team • Demonstrated computer skills • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
