Job Description: Legal Counsel is a key leader in Saskatchewan health care, partnering with system leaders to achieve our province's healthcare goals. Reporting to the Executive Director, Labour and Employee Relations, Legal Counsel is responsible for providing legal support, guidance and direction to the Saskatchewan Health Authority and affiliate organizations. Legal support will be provided for both in-scope and out-of-scope employment issues in the form of legal opinions and training regarding statute, case law and collective agreement interpretation. The incumbent represents the Saskatchewan Health Authority and affiliate organizations at grievance arbitrations, administrative hearings; including Saskatchewan Human Rights hearings, Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board hearings, and matters in Saskatchewan Courts; including judicial review applications at the Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench, and applications related to collective bargaining.

Human Resources Exemption: No

Experience

  • 5+ years knowledge and experience in employment law in unionized environment
  • Strong working knowledge of all legal processes.

Education

  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Law Society of Saskatchewan
  • Juris Doctor or LL.B

Licenses

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

Other Education & Training

  • Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Licensed, and in good standing, with regulatory body, if applicable
